Seeking Land Stewardship

I am currently seeking a multi-year opportunity for land stewardship. Specifically, I am looking for a place to build a diverse offering of specialty crops over time. The primary purpose of the land will be conservation/ sanctuary under current use. Offerings might include: fruit and nut trees, cane fruit, medicinal herbs, Appalachian heirloom vegetables, native plants, and/or a plant nursery.

Some considerations:

  • My background is in small scale, intensive farming in New England, in zones 3-5. I can do what I want almost anywhere and I don't need hundreds of acres, though it would be nice to have a few acres.
  • I prefer to use organic methods and practices, and have other ecological practice considerations. I'm a graduate of Tufts University New Entry Sustainable Farming Program Farm Business Planning Course (2012) and Holistic Management International Whole Farm Planning for Women (2013). For a little more info on my training see here.
  • I am a Natural Resources Steward for the state of NH (2012) and have contributed over 400 hours of volunteer service in conservation.
  • A greenhouse is an important future part of infrastructure in this climate, so I would like to have access to one or to build one in future years.
  • I would prefer an opportunity that leads to ownership or long-term stewardship. To be able to live on the land is the best scenario.
  • I am skilled at running a small retail store, so having a store on-property or close to the property is something I'd like to pursue.
  • I have a background in working with chickens and goats and am open to working with both.
  • Having a written lease is important to me.
